Wreck Camp Directors

NOTE: Wreck Camp is designed and implemented through a team driven process. Primary areas of responsibility are outlined in an effort to efficiently and effectively assign areas of focus for each staff member. All Wreck Camp Student Directors help with all program and event tasks when the need arises. Position responsibilities are subject to change any given Wreck Camp year depending on the skills or needs of the leadership team.
 

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous NSTP experience (Wreck Camp, FASET, KNIT, etc.)
  • Student Directors must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA at time of application and maintain that GPA throughout the involvement term cumulatively and per semester.
  • Student Directors must be in good academic and judicial standing.
  • Obtain a Co-op or Internship in the greater Atlanta area for the summer as duties require in town presence. Some positions require working in the NSTP office for the summer. 
  • Availability to participate fully in all Wreck Camp events, including directors meetings, staff trainings, etc.
  • Must assign and abide by the rules of the behavior contract distributed when offered position.
  • Student Directors must understand and support the goals of Wreck Camp programs.
  • Work cooperatively with others to perform necessary ‘wrap-up’ duties after the Wreck Camp session, including producing a transition document/files for future returning staff.
  • All applicants must schedule an appointment for an interview upon submission of their application.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in all meetings, trainings, and workshops associated with Wreck Camp.
  • Participate in the Wreck Camp staff selection, training, supervision, and development process.
  • Assist with the on-going planning, implementation, and evaluation of Wreck Camp.
  • Work productively and cooperatively with all members of the campus community to effectively implement extended orientation programs.
  • Organize, direct, implement, and monitor areas of responsibility assigned in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Monitor and supervise all assigned Wreck Camp activities/events.
  • Work cooperatively with others to perform necessary ‘wrap-up’ duties after the Wreck Camp session, including producing a transition document/files for future student directors.

 

ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION REQUIRED

  • Weekly Directors Meetings (time TBD)
  • NSTP Retreat (September 14-16, 2018)
  • NSTP Fall Trainings (Tuesdays, 6-9:00pm)
  • Extended Orientation Institute (EOI) November 16-18, 2018 (Travel and hotel paid for by NSTP)
  • Staff Retreat (February TBD)
  • Wreck Camp Spring Trainings (every Monday night from 6:00-8:00pm)
  • Wreck Camp Exec Work Week (July 29-August 2, 2019)
  • Wreck Camp Staff Work Days (August 5-6, 2019)
  • Camper Move-In (August 6-7,2019)
  • Wreck Camp 2019 (August 7-10, 2019)
  • Wreck Camp International 2019 (August 13, 2019)
  • Wreck Camp Reunion(s) (Fall 2019 TBD)

 

Director Position Descriptions

 

Director of Staff Training & Development (1-2 positions available)

  • Plan and implement staff spring & summer training schedule and curriculum (in conjunction with advisor).

  • Plan and coordinate staff retreat (in conjunction with advisor).

  • Advise and direct Camper Education committee chair(s).

  • Responsible for coordinating Staff Banquet in the fall (in conjunction with advisor).

  • Organize out-of-training team development opportunities and socials.

  • Work with NSTP professional staff to coordinate the all-NSTP summer leader social.

  • Ability to hold self and others accountable of actions, contracts, and commitments.

  • Coordinate Wreck Camp guest speaker accommodations (if applicable).

  • Complete 10 office hours per week, including meetings and one on ones, in the fall and spring semesters in the NSTP office planning all Wreck Camp programmatic elements.

    • Wreck Camp Directors meeting counts as two hours, advisor 1:1 counts as an hour, 1:1’s with your committee chairs count as hours toward this 10.

  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, Coordinator, or Graduate Assistant(s) of NSTP as necessitated by the position.

 

 

Director of Programming & Logistics (1-2 positions available)

  • Assist with Wreck Camp schedule development.

  • Responsible for all logistics of the Wreck Camp program.

  • Direct student and staff assignments at camp.

  • Advise and direct the Wreck Camp Programming committee chair(s).

  • Advise and direct the Wreck Camp International committee chair(s).

  • Represent Wreck Camp at the Annual Cage Cleaning, partnering with all other NSTP Program representatives.

  • Inventory, maintain, and purchase all supplies for Wreck Camp programs.

  • Lead morning and evening debriefs each day of camp.

  • Complete 10 office hours per week, including meetings and one on ones, in the fall and spring semesters in the NSTP office planning all Wreck Camp programmatic elements.

    • Wreck Camp Directors meeting counts as two hours, advisor 1:1 counts as an hour, 1:1’s with your committee chairs count as hours toward this 10.

  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, Coordinator, or Graduate Assistant(s) of NSTP as necessitated by the position.

  • This position is required to work in the NSTP office during the summer.

 

 

Director of Recruitment & Retention (1-2 positions available)

  • Creates, coordinates, and implements an effective recruitment plan to attract a diverse and innovative staff (in conjunction with Marketing & Outreach).

  • Coordinate a comprehensive recruitment plan targeting incoming students (including transfer and international students) encouraging them to attend Wreck Camp/Wreck Camp International.

  • Coordinate Director and staff involvement at FASET orientation sessions throughout the summer to promote Wreck Camp.

  • Coordinate staff involvement at Wreck Camp Move-In.

  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with all other NSTP programs including FASET and KNIT.

  • Engage and connect with campers prior to arrival through the use of social media, email, and mail communications (in conjunction with Marketing & Outreach).

  • Advise and direct the Wreck Camp Kick Off committee chair(s).

  • Advise and direct the Wreck Camp Reunion committee chair(s).

  • Complete 10 office hours per week, including meetings and one on ones, in the fall and spring semesters in the NSTP office planning all Wreck Camp programmatic elements.

    • Wreck Camp Directors meeting counts as two hours, advisor 1:1 counts as an hour, 1:1’s with your committee chairs count as hours toward this 10.

  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, Coordinator, or Graduate Assistant(s) of NSTP as necessitated by the position.

  • This position is required to work in the NSTP office during the summer.

 

 

Director of Marketing & Outreach (1-2 positions available)

  • Responsible for all Wreck Camp correspondence (Email, Phone, Social Media, Listservs, etc.)

  • Support Recruitment & Retention in seeking a diverse and innovative staff.

  • Support Recruitment & Retention in promoting Wreck Camp to all incoming students.

  • Designs graphics, orders marketing materials, and communicates with vendors when necessary.

  • Develop and maintain a relationship with FASET’s Community Development team, serving as a member of the committee, working to seek out sponsorship opportunities on and off campus.

  • Coordinate all photo/video documentation and promotion of Wreck Camp activities and programs.

  • Develop a comprehensive social media plan promoting Wreck Camp to all relevant audiences.

  • Designs and orders the Wreck Camp t-shirts (in conjunction with advisor).

  • Maintains contact with staff living outside Atlanta during the summer.

  • Responsible for WC Alumni Engagement (via social media or otherwise).

  • Advise and direct the Fundraising committee chair(s).

  • Complete 10 office hours per week, including meetings and one on ones, in the fall and spring semesters in the NSTP office planning all Wreck Camp programmatic elements.
