Extended Orientation

Georgia Tech offers a variety of extended orientation experiences that assist new students in getting acclimated to life at Tech in addition to the resources and programs offered at FASET. Students who previously participated in at least one extended orientation experience said the program not only confirmed that Tech was the right choice for them, but it also made them more comfortable with their transition to college.

Meant as a supplement to FASET, Tech offers programs that range from an immersive volunteer experience in the Atlanta community to venturing off campus to a local camp to get to know other new students in a focused atmosphere. All programs seek to connect students to their fellow students, to campus resources, and to the campus community. Each program offers its own unique flavor and focus, with some programs having an academic focus, like Tech Prep and Challenge, and others offered outdoor adventure experiences, like Tech Treks. All programs utilize experienced student leaders to serve as mentors to new Yellow Jackets. Programs vary in length from three days (Wreck Camp) to one month (Challenge).

Wreck Camp & Wreck Camp International

Wreck Camp - August 7-10, $300

Part of New Student & Transition Programs (NSTP), Wreck Camp is an extended orientation experience for incoming students that brings together new and current students to help jumpstart the college experience in a fun summer-camp setting. Wreck Camp is designed to aid students in their transition to Georgia Tech by developing a diverse social network and strengthening their ties to the Institute through the introduction of campus culture and traditions. Over three days and two nights, new students along with other incoming students and student leaders go to an off-campus retreat center and learn more about Georgia Tech, its traditions, and their new GT family.

Wreck Camp International - August 7-13, $500

International students will have an opportunity to have a customized program specifically designed to meet incoming international undergraduate students’ unique needs and concerns. By attending Wreck Camp International, an incoming student will attend our extended orientation program, Wreck Camp. With specific programs and student leaders to help transition international students to Georgia Tech. Through this program, international students will have the opportunity to move in early and attend Wreck Camp. After Wreck Camp is completed, first-year international students are required to attend the next FASET Orientation session (FASET 6 - August 11th and August 12th) where they will be given their Buzz card, meet with Academic Advisors, and register for classes. After attending FASET, the international students will have an additional day of programming that will guide them through cultural and academic transitions, learn about additional resources on campus, and be given the opportunity to access local stores to purchase necessities to begin their college career.  Wreck Camp International (first-year international students only) is Wednesday, August 7-Tuesday, August 13th (includes Wreck Camp, FASET 6, and one day of international transition workshops)
