Wreck Camp Staff Applications Will Open on October 22.

 

Wreck Camp is an extended orientation experience that brings together new and current students to jumpstart their college experience in a fun summer-camp setting. Wreck Camp programs are designed to aid students in their transition to Georgia Tech by developing a diverse social network and strengthening their ties to the Institute through a combination of fun activities. Students leave all camp programs prepared to be an engaged member of our campus community.

Roles

The primary role of a Wreck Camp staff member is to provide guidance to incoming students and assist in the facilitation of Wreck Camp events and activities. The position of Wreck Camp staff member requires a great deal of dedication and love for Georgia Tech. As representatives of The Georgia Institute of Technology, Wreck Camp staff members are expected to positively represent themselves, Wreck Camp, New Student & Transition Programs, and Tech. The minimum expectations and responsibilities for staff members include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending and actively participating in training.
  • Working as a team with other Wreck Camp staff members, Wreck Camp Directors, NSTP Professional Staff, and any GT staff and faculty.
  • Participating and assisting with the organization, planning, and implementation of Wreck Camp throughout the summer. 
  • Facilitating group discussions over issues that new students may face during their transition to college.
  • Attending additional meetings to assist with the planning of Wreck Camp during the summer.
  • If a student is chosen to return to the Wreck Camp staff, they are also expected to provide guidance and share previous experience with new staff members, lead a sub-committee that will be advised by the Directors, and assist with the mentoring and group building of their respective Color Teams.

Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for Wreck Camp Counselor include:

  • Good academic standing, with a required cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.
  • Good judicial standing with no outstanding judicial sanctions.
  • Will be enrolled as an undergraduate student at Georgia Tech at least one additional semester following the summer they are a staff member.
  • Understand and support the purpose of Wreck Camp and the mission of Georgia Tech.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be reliable, responsible, flexible, and willing to help.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of team members, students, guests, GT faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn about Tech and help others learn about it and how to be a successful student.
  • Demonstrate pride of Georgia Tech and the willingness to share said pride with incoming students and families.
  • Wreck Camp staff member socials will be held throughout the summer and are optional
  • Must be present and on time to all training sessions, workdays, and Wreck Camp sessions (unless cleared by NSTP professional staff).

Working/Classes During the Summer

Wreck Camp staff members are required to work Wreck Camp Odyssey and Wreck Camp ATL. Additionally, Wreck Camp Workdays are non-negotiable days you will need to be in attendance unless approved otherwise by the Wreck Camp Coordinator.
